Year 5 Vikings
16 March 2015
Viking Day
Class 5 had an excellent day with Partake Theatre Company experiencing what life was like as a Viking. In the morning we tried on some armour, made silver bracelets, made clay coil pots, learnt how to spin wool on a spindle, tried our hand at weaving and ground some spelt grain to flour! It was hard work! The afternoon was just as exciting as we enacted a Viking raid complete with costumes and our own wooden sword.
Viking Workshop Trip
The fun continued in Class 5 as in the same week we also had a trip to the University of Nottingham. There we learnt how to write in runes and about how towns in Nottinghamshire got their names from the Vikings! After learning about all the items Vikings were buried with we also made our own burial ships using craft paper, plasticine and a peg doll. The highlight was watching a re-enactment of two Viking warriors fighting. We were on the edge of our seat as they clashed swords!
