Viking Raid

Viking Raid

What a fantastic day! Class 5 actually got to be Vikings! We dressed up as Vikings and rowed our longships over the North Sea to 'Angleland' (now known as England). We attempted to take some rather fine quality treasure but the Anglo-Saxon warriors got wind of us and fought us back. Sadly our leader Torunn died in battle so we gave him a true Norse burial by setting his ship alight with him inside.
The leaders of the day were incredibly impressed with how well the class took part and Mrs Shaw ...

Vikings Trip

Vikings Trip

Class 5 had a fantastic day at The University of Nottingham! In the morning we learnt about place names in Nottinghamshire which originate from Old English and Old Norse, made our own Viking burial scene, wrote secret messages in Runes and got to touch and use some Viking weapons and armour!
Then in the afternoon we were allowed to handle artefacts from the Museum and found out what they would have been used for. We found the earwax scoop particularly interesting!
In all great day out and we ...

Fair's Fair - Food around the World

Fair's Fair - Food around the World

We looked at the labels on fruit and found out the country they came from then we used atlases to locate the country and put markers on our map.
It was really interesting to find out where food on our supermarket shelves came from and the miles they would have travelled to get there.
Later in the week we will be making our very own smoothies which you will be able to taste at our Big Fairtrade Breakfast on Friday!

Prayer Encounter

Prayer Encounter

We had a really good time at the 'Prayer Encounter' experience. We were prompted to think about situations in our world which are not fair. We prayed for children with dirty drinking water and wrote our messages in a bottle. Then we had a go at making a paper bag, some of us found it a bit tricky and we were grateful we didn't have to make them all day like some children. We also took time to consider whether we had been unfair towards others and had time to reflect and say sorry to God.
It wa...

Fizzy Balloons

Fizzy Balloons

We had an awesome lesson in Science yesterday!

We investigated what happened when vinegar and baking soda are mixed inside a bottle with a balloon on the end.

'I found it very interesting, I didn't know that the balloon would blow up!' Kezia G
'We learnt that because vinegar is an acid and baking soda is a base, when they are mixed a chemical reaction occurs and carbon dioxide is made.' Abbie B
'The balloon inflated it was so cool!' Elliot H
'I thought the balloon was going to pop! So m...

Reflections on Hope

Reflections on Hope

In Class 5 we have been thinking about the meaning of hope. We considered what it meant for us and also had a look at what the Bible says about hope.

We really liked the verse ‘We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, it keeps us firm and secure’ from the book of Hebrews 6:19.

This is why our display has a nautical theme. We thought about what it means for Jesus to be like an anchor for us throughout different situation in our lives. Do have a look at what we wrote!

It forms a...

Class 5 Greek Tiles

Class 5 Greek Tiles

Take a look at these clay tiles made by Class 5! We tried to copy patterns and our designs show scenes from Ancient Greece. George and Luke’s show the Parthenon, Sam’s has the fearsome looking Cerberus. Leo made a golden Drachma coin. The children made their paints out of natural materials: vinegar, salt, carrot, raspberries, flour, beetroot and even egg!...
